“Living In Darkness” [Official Video]

Young Phoenix: “Living In Darkness”

“Living In Darkness” is my latest promo video directed & filmed by Owen Marshall of AllProHipHop. While writing to this track produced by Beatg33kz, my goal was to create an imagery of the lifestyle people tend to live consumed by darkness. Some of us are aware of the dangers and consequences of living in darkness and find ways to survive. Some people are less fortunate and become victims of the streets. Poem: “Alarm Clock” – Young Phoenix

“Alarm Clock”

6:45 A.M.
Mother: “Wake up, time to get ready for school!”
Son: “OMG! Ma you be blowin’ minez wit this every mornin’,
What you think I gotta alarm clock for?”
Mother: “Boy, if yo ass dont stop talking back, what you think a casket gone be for?
Cuz we can take that route,
I brought you in this world and i will take yo ass out”
Son: “You be odee’n I swear. I still got fifteen more minutes, why you goin’ in?”
Mother: “Because when ya alarm ring all you gone do is hit snooze and be late for school,
thats something you got use to.
So that sh*t ends today, you will graduate.
Im tired of sitting here allowing you to procrastinate”
“Blah, blah, blah…
Blah blah, blah…
Blah blah…DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!”
Son: “Yes Ma!”
Mother: “Were you even listening?”
Son: “Yessss I heard you…Damn, all this ova an alarm clock?”

Poem: “The Windows” – Young Phoenix

“The Windows”

As I stare through these ever so foggy windows
I continue to ask myself, why?
Why must I live confined to these walls?
Why must I remain hidden from all that dwells on the outside?
Why is it that I have two windows but only able to see through one?
Why am I enraged as if I have become the sound of thunder?
Without any answers to my fustration
I close my curtains to counter act this attack
Thus, the rain rapidly falls along side the pane
Which only continues to hinder my vision
But I refuse to be broken
I refuse to be broken by the stones tossed into the air
Or from the ferocious winds of the world
that proves it does not care
I refuse to be broken by the fear of living amongst the storm
Why should I fear life?
Without an answer to this question
I open my curtains
To my surprise a beautiful sun
Which now my windows gaze so profoundly upon

New Website Design

Today we rolled out a new design for YoungPhoenix.com.  I wanted to take the site in a different direction so I had pops customize the Atahualpa theme to give it a sleek, minimalist feel.  Hopefully, it will make it easier for fans to navigate and for me to maintain.

All the music now appears on the front page, so you don’t have to search. For those of you who aren’t already fans, followers or subscribers, we threw some Web 2.0 social media buttons in the header for easy access (that’s your cue).  We also added an image slider (I know…it’s time for another photo shoot).

The YP logo is temporary… I’m hoping one of you super-talented graphic artists will bless me with something official in exchange for some heavy promo or a theme song for your site.  Holla at me and we’ll work something out.

I’m debating over whether or not to keep this site advertisement-free (is it still a debate if you on both sides of the argument?).  Not that I couldn’t use the extra guap, but it’s almost like putting bumper stickers on a Bentley…lol.  We’ll see how it goes.

Last but not least, I’m taking the site in another direction.  It’s all YP, all the time!  No more general news items and random hip-hop BS.  The focus of this blog will be my personal journey in hip-hop–the good and the bad, ups and downs.  It all begins right here and right now.

In the meantime, take a look around the site and let me know what you think.  Be sure to check out the new music I posted on the home page and my updated bio.  I’ll be back with a vengeance in a few days.

Peace
